A little quieter than Upolu with less traffic and fewer high-rise buildings, Savaii has more of an 'island feel' and is regarded as the epitome of Samoa. This pristine island is home to many important landmarks as well as legends and tales that reflect Samoa's history and this, combined with the relaxed pace of life means many people fall in love with Savaii after only one visit.
Today you will be collected from your hotel on Upolu Island and taken to Mulifanua Wharf, to catch the Lady Samoa III ferry to Savaii Island.
On arrival, you'll be taken on a full-day tour of the island. You'll see the southern coastline with stops at Afu A’au waterfalls and the Alofaaga blow holes at Taga as well as an opportunity to see a Tapa making demonstration before stopping for lunch at Satuiatua Beach fales.
After lunch, visit lover’s leap to hear intriguing local legends before making your way to the westernmost point, Falealup for the canopy walkway and other legendary spots.
You will be dropped off at your hotel once the tour has finished and overnight on Savaii.
After breakfast at the hotel you will be collected and taken for another full-day tour across Savaii Island.
Today you will visit the northern and eastern coastlines. In Manase, see the white sandy beaches and visit the turtle sanctuary, before enjoying a guided tour of the lava fields where you will hear the local legends. Lunch at Lauiula Beach Fales is included, alongside a short cultural show.
After lunch, make your way along the coastline stopping at various view points along the way - make sure you remember your camera as there will be some fabulous photo opportunities! You'll make a stop in Salelologa where you can visit the market, full of colourful local crafts and produce.
Finally, you'll be taken back to Upolu Island by ferry and transferred to your hotel to continue on your Samoa adventure!
The best time to visit Samoa is between May and October during dry season. This is also when many major Samoan festivals are held. During the wet season from November to April the islands can be very wet and are prone to the odd tropical cyclone. December and January is peak time in Samoa with many Australians and New Zealanders visit for the holiday period. The average annual temperature in coastal areas is around 26 degrees.
