Itinerary

Itinerary in brief:

  • 4 nights’ accommodation on the luxury cruise Amazon Star

Day 1: Arrive in Iquitos, board the cruise

After landing in Iquitos, you’ll be met by the staff of the Amazon Star and driven to the city for a guided tour of Iquitos – fascinatingly it’s the world’s largest city that cannot be reached by road. After visiting the main attractions including the Amazon Rescue Centre (CREA) and the Museum of Amazonian Indigenous Cultures, you’ll be taken to the port to board your cruise ship.

This afternoon you’ll begin navigating the Amazon River, and after a delicious dinner, you’ll be briefed on the following day’s activities.

Day 2: Amazon River exploration

Early in the morning, you can choose to head to the observation deck for an optional bird watching activity. Peru has the second highest number of bird species in the world, and most of them can be found in the Amazon! After breakfast, you’ll go on a boat exploration along the Amazon River to observe the biodiversity and look out for monkeys and other jungle life.

In the afternoon you’ll go for another boat exploration – this time sailing along the Yarapa River into a nature reserve that’s protected by a local community. Back on the boat, you’ll have some time to relax before dinner and next day’s activities briefing.

Day 3: Yanallpa stream & El Dorado River

There’s another early start to the day, with the opportunity to join a bird watching activity on the deck followed by a boat exploration of the beautiful Yanallpa stream.

After breakfast, you’ll visit a village and school to understand a little more about the culture and tradition of Amazonian communities. After lunch, a naturalist guide will offer an educational talk on the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, and in the evening you’ll go on a night walk in El Dorado stream to see the nocturnal wildlife. Back on the Amazon Star dinner will be served and the guides will brief the passengers on tomorrow’s activities.

Day 4: El Dorado River & Supay stream

Early this morning, you’ll head out for a boat exploration of El Dorado River and the chance to fish for the famous Amazon piranha, followed by a picnic-style breakfast on the river.

There will be other boat trips today including a journey along the Supay stream which you can choose to kayak. At the end of the day, enjoy a delicious farewell dinner.

Day 5: Disembarkation

After breakfast today, you’ll disembark the Amazon Star, and you will be driven back to Iquitos airport for your next flight.
