Itinerary in brief:
- 1 night Adelaide
- 1 night Mount Gambier
- 1 night Port Fairy
- 1 night Apollo Bay
- 3 nights Melbourne
Day 1: Arrive Adelaide
On arrival into Adelaide you will collect your car and head to your hotel for the night. The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore this laidback city; you could take the tram out to Glenelg, Adelaide’s beach spot, stroll around the shops or walk to the end of pier to enjoy lovely views across the ocean.
Day 2: Adelaide to Mount Gambier
We recommend an early start today as you make the 4.5 hour drive to Mount Gambier. After checking into your hotel, why not head to the Blue Lake with its ever-changing water colour dependent on the seasons? For the best scenic views, climb up to Centenary Tower for panoramic views over the city, Blue Lake and the surrounding volcanic landscape.
Day 3: Mount Gambier to Port Fairy
Today you’ll make the 2 hour drive to Port Fairy, so you can leave Mount Gambier at your leisure. After checking into your hotel in Port Fairy, why not explore the town? Head down to the port and check out the fisherman unloading their catch or take a stroll around the arts and crafts shops scattered throughout this picturesque harbour town.
Day 4: Port Fairy to Apollo Bay
Have breakfast at your leisure before making the 2.5 hour drive to Apollo Bay. Choose how you time your drive today because the spectacular Twelve Apostles are situated en route; these iconic rock stacks and arches and the nearby beaches are incredibly photogenic, but especially so at sunrise or sunset.

Days 5: Apollo Bay to Melbourne
Today is your final day of driving as you make the 2.5 hour journey to Melbourne. On arrival, drop off your car at the downtown depot in Melbourne and making your way to your city centre hotel.
Days 6 & 7: Melbourne
We’ve included a couple of full days to explore Melbourne. You could visit the beachside town of St. Kilda and check out the array of boutique cake shops, or pay a visit to Eureka Sky for 360degree views of the Melbourne skyline – whilst you’re there, you can even enjoy a cocktail at the top!
Day 8: Depart Melbourne
It’s time for your trip to come to an end so today you’ll check out of your hotel and make your own way to the airport or your next destination.
