Discover the natural beauty of Botswana with our luxury Okavango Delta safari, staying in the comfort of a luxury lodge. Glide across the delta in a mokoro canoe looking for snoozing hippos – with just their eyes, ears and nostrils visible above the water. Spot giraffes grazing in the treetops up to their knees in the wetlands, then walk through the grasses on the lookout for leopards lazing in the trees. Each night you’ll enjoy the luxurious lodge – dining under the stars on a traditional ‘Boma’ night where stories are told around the fire after a day exploring – this is how to see Botswana at its finest.
Arriving at Maun Airport, you will take a scheduled, light aircraft flight into the Okavango Delta. On arrival, you will be driven to Vumbura Plains, a luxury lodge where you will spend three nights.
Comprised of two camps, each camp has a raised dining and bar area beneath a canopy of trees overlooking the floodplains. The rooms are raised above the ground with their own outdoor shower and plunge pool.
You have two full days to explore the Okavango Delta with guided walks, mokoro safaris and jeep safaris all included. Gliding through the water in the long mokoro canoe is the iconic way to enjoy the delta, looking out for wiggling hippo ears amongst the waterlilies and watching colourful frogs and water birds in the wetlands. Young lions hide amongst the grasses preying on the buffalo as they bathe in the channels, while oxpeckers chatter and perch on their horns.
As well as travelling by canoe you can experience game drives in jeeps. Every guest has a window seat, affording great views of leopards relaxing in the treetops and maybe even a sitatunga, the only true amphibious antelope in Africa. Returning to the lodge, you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner before drinks at the bar as you watch the sunset. Later you can enjoy night drives to look out for nocturnal animals like porcupines and servals, eyes glinting in the darkness.
Today you’ll take one last guided walk through these unique wetlands before being driven to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight back to Maun.
The weather in Botswana is seasonal, with a short rainy season from December to March before bright and clear weather from April to August, with nighttime temperatures dropping all the time. Lack of rain means the wildlife flocks to the available water sources and prices of accommodation rise with the temperatures, all the way through to November.
