Day 1: Approach to the Condoriri group, 4.5 hours trekking
Set off for this unique trek from La Paz, first driving to the village of Plaza del Llamas (4,300 metres) before beginning your ascent to the first night’s camp on the shores of the beautiful Chiara Khota Lagoon. Pass through the complete silence of the mountains, broken only by passing llamas breaking ice beneath their hooves, creating small trickles that will eventually snake down the mountains to Lake Titicaca, shimmering in the distance. Enjoy the company of wild llamas, alpacas and lizards as you walk.
Day 2: Chiara-Khota Lagoon to Maria Lloco Glacier, 6 hours trekking
Today begins with an early wakeup call but it will be worth it as you view the Andean sun rise over the mountains. You will trek through two mountain passes with views of the majestic Huayna Potosi glistening in the sunlight. Reaching the first pass at 4,850 metres you’ll enjoy a downhill respite and views of your snowy surroundings before ascending to 4,759 metres. You'll climb down to the camping area near Maria Lloco at around 4,650 metres and overnight at the camp, ready to begin your challenge of conquering Huayna Potosi early tomorrow.
Day 3: Maria Lloco Glacier – Huayna Potosi high 5200 metre camp, 6 hours trekking
This morning you’ll trek past lakes of different hues from bright aquamarine to rich pink. After 3 hours' trekking you will be transported to Huayna Potosi Base Camp and after a good lunch, you’ll be ready to start your ascent to Campo Alto at 5,200 metres. Following the well-marked route you’ll be in bed early after checking through all of the mountain gear, ready for your attempt on the summit the next day.
Day 4: Summit attempt
After a very early breakfast (around midnight!) you will begin heading up the glacier, aiming for the east face as you trek for 6 hours towards the spot where the morning sun will rise from the horizon. On arrival you can experience the incredible views from one of the highest mountains in Bolivia, gazing at the sugar-dusted peaks below, broken by the vast expanse of water where Lake Titicaca lies on the top of the world.
Congratulations on completing the peak! After enjoying the view, you’ll descend back to Campo Alto before moving onto Base Camp where a vehicle will be waiting to drive you back to La Paz.
