Day 1: Arrive Puerto Maldonado
This morning you'll fly in from either Lima or Cusco to Puerto Maldonado (own cost). After checking in at the Butterfly House, you'll be transferred to the lodge by boat. On arrival, enjoy a delicious lunch before heading out on a 2-hour rainforest walk. Your guide is on hand to teach you about the rainforest and answer any question you have!
After your walk, take a twilight cruise on the Madre de Dios River to learn about the river’s eco system, Amazonian creeks and the nocturnal animals’ behaviour.
Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 2: Amazon
After breakfast at the lodge, head out on a long trek on ‘terre firme’ into Tambopata National Reserve towards Lake Sandoval. You can learn about the reserve’s conservation work and the lake’s formation before taking to a dugout canoe on the lake to spot the endangered giant river otters, red howler monkeys and one of the world’s biggest fresh water fish, the paiche.
Head back to the lodge for lunch, then take a trip to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway & Anaconda Walk. It's a short boat ride to the centre where you can learn about the conservation projects that are on-going here. Ascend one of the two 98 foot towers and traverse the 7 hanging bridges that connect the trees at 91 feet in the air! From this incredible vantage point you'll have spectacular views with the chance to see toucans, squirrel monkeys and the three toed sloth!
Tonight you will go on a 'Hidden Rainforest' excursion which provides a unique chance to spot the Amazonian creatures who only emerge at night. Afterward enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 3: Amazon
After an early breakfast, head off on the 'Native Farm' excursion where you can discover more about local farming techniques and taste some local produce. The Botanical Gardens are next, where you can find out about the medicinal uses of different plants and compare the traditional methods to local ones.
Have lunch at the lodge before heading out on the 'Cocha water' excursion. Enjoy a canoe ride on the Inkaterra Hacienda Conception natural pond and try your hand at some ‘catch and release’ fishing using traditional fishing techniques.
This evening you can participate in an 'Inland Collpa', your chance to watch the normal nocturnal routines of the animals without disturbing their environment.
Day 4: Return to Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, you'll be taken back to Puerto Maldonado by motorised canoe. On arrival you'll have time to look around the beautiful butterfly house before making your onward journey.
