Days 2 - 9: Antigua

You have a week to relax and enjoy the spectacular island of Antigua. Stroll along perfect beaches, snorkel with colourful fish in the turquoise water and watch the sunset over the curved bays.

We’ve included a few tours to make the most of your time here. On Day 3, you’ll head out on a catamaran cruise to Barbuda, the sister island of Antigua. Board the ‘Excellence’, which will take you across to Barbuda as you relax on deck enjoying a cool drink. Seeing Barbuda by boat is the best way to enjoy the island – you’ll cruise up to Low Bay, a beautiful beach where turtle tracks are often seen. Climb off the boat into the beautiful turquoise water where you can spend some time swimming. Before lunch you’ll hop onto a small boat with your local Barbudan guide, visiting the wild mangroves along the coast to see the world’s largest Frigate bird colony. Finish the day with a delicious Caribbean style lunch before spending a couple of hours sunbathing and eventually heading back to Antigua.

On Day 6, we’ve included a tour of Antigua. You’ll be picked up in the morning and head off on an off-road jeep safari through the countryside towards the north coast. Hop into the water on your kayak, paddling between 22 small and uninhabited islands, admiring the mangroves and exotic marine life. Stop at Bird Island for lunch and take a hike into the hills before finishing with some time snorkelling with colourful fish in the clear water.

On a Sunday night, you’ll be picked up and taken to Shirley Heights, where you can party underneath the sunset to the sound of steel drums. This spectacular lookout enjoys views over English Harbour and the ocean. Each Sunday evening there is a relaxed party up here, with local bands playing, delicious Caribbean food and rum cocktails. It’s a fantastic way to finish off your time in Antigua!

Info

Antigua & Barbuda have a tropical climate in line with their neighbouring islands. While the temperature doesn’t vary much throughout the year, the humidity changes hugely between the seasons. December to April is the coolest and driest time, perfect if you’re looking for some winter sun. The hurricane season looms between June and November, with spells of intense rainfall and thunderstorms. There is still plenty of sunshine, but chances of rain are high. Hurricanes are most likely between August and October.
