Phnom Penh has a fascinating history – it was once considered one of the most beautiful cities in the orient, and despite its recent turbulent history, it still retains its colonial charm. It is a bustling city, located at the meeting point of the mighty rivers of the Mekong and Tonle Sap. This stop-over package gives you a great insight into the dark past of Cambodia, while also showcasing their traditions and culture.

This Phnom Penh stopover includes:

Day 1: Arrive in Phnom Penh

You will be greeted by your private driver once you have cleared customs and collected your luggage.

You will be taken to your hotel, where you will check in for your 3 night stay in Phnom Penh.

Day 2: Phnom Penh Tour

This morning you will gain vital knowledge about Cambodia’s recent history during a visit to two of the country's most notorious sites. Start your day with a visit to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek - This rural compound was used as an execution site and burial ground for some of the millions killed during the Khmer Rouge regime. Learn about the atrocities and brutal killings that occurred at this site. This will be followed by the remarkable Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, which is housed in the former school that was taken over by the Khmer Rouge, and used as a detention and torture centre named S-21.

Today will be educational and also deeply moving – it is very important to learn about the experiences the Cambodian people went through, as this will allow you to understand Cambodia better, and also appreciate how the country and its people are moving on from their dark history.

After a challenging and eye-opening morning, your afternoon is free for you to explore independently. We loved browsing the colourful Central market, one of the largest markets in Phnom Penh. Here you will get to witness Phnom Penh’s culture and traditions through jewellery, food, textiles, and handicrafts.

Day 3: Phnom Penh

We have left today free for you to explore Phnom Penh at your own pace.

A few highlights we really enjoyed include visiting the Russian Market, where you will find the widest (and best!) selection of wood and stone carvings, or perhaps heading to the Silver Pagoda (named after it’s shining silver floor) and the National Museum of Cambodia.   

Day 4: Depart Phnom Penh

Your time in Phnom Penh is drawing to a close, so your driver will collect you from your hotel and take you to meet your onward flight. Cambodia is a year round destination, however the best months to visit are December and January when humidity levels are low, rainfall in minimal and a cool breeze gives relief. From early February temperatures begin to rise until April when temperatures can hit 40 degrees. The wet season goes from May to October and brings rain and high humidity.
