Visit the majestic Iguazu Falls on your way through South America with this 4-day stopover package that bases you on the Argentinian side, staying in Puerto Iguazu.

With two days at the falls, you'll have the opportunity to admire the cascades from both the Argentinian and Brazilian perspectives and to explore the sizeable national park that's home to jungle creatures including plenty of monkeys and birds.

A tour to the Argentinian side takes around 6 hours, by boat and on foot, it brings you close-up to the thundering waters to admire the 275 cascades on this side. Visiting the Brazilian side is quicker, by road, and the views from this country are more panoramic - taking in the breathtaking perspective of the entire falls, from a distance.

    This stopover package includes:

    • Accommodation
    • Shared return transfers
    • Full-day Argentinean falls tour
    • Half-day Brazilian falls tour

Day 1: Arrive in Iguazu (Argentinian side)

You will be picked up at the airport and driven to your hotel, where you will check in for a 3-night stay.

Day 2: Full-day tour of the Argentinian side of the falls

For your first view of the falls we drive to the Argentinian side of the Iguazu National Park and stroll along the lower circuit. Follow over a kilometre of paths that take you under the famous ‘Devil’s Throat’ – underneath small splashing waterfalls to the heart of the cascading falls. Be prepared to be enveloped in the clouds of fine spray rising from the raging torrent.

You will continue by a small train that chugs cheerfully through the rainforest, under thick foliage inhabited by butterflies and lizards with the sounds of the birds and monkeys filling the air. At Estacion Garganta, there is a pathway that rises at the other end the Devil’s Throat which leads you to a stunning lookout over the upper lip of the falls. Devil’s Throat is possibly the most spectacular of the 275 waterfalls that make up this complex.

Day 3 Half-day tour of the Brazilian side of the falls

Your tour today will take you across the border (please ensure you have the correct documentation if required).

The Brazilian side of the falls offers a more panoramic view than the close up on the Argentine side, with a walkway that descends past several overlooks to a catwalk over the falls, allowing you to really get a sense of the power of the rushing water (prepare for a soaking if you choose to go all the way out). From the end of the main walkway, an elevator whisks you back up to street level at the top of the cliff (there’s also a trail up to the street for those who prefer not to wait in line for the lift).

At the end of your tour, you will return to Peurto Iguazu, Argentina.

    Day 4: Depart Iguazu

After breakfast today, you'll be driven to the airport to connect with your onward flight.

    • Full Day Argentine Falls Tour (shared)
    • Half Day Brazilian Falls Tour (shared)
    • National Park entry fees for both tours

Being close to the equator, this is a tropical area which means it’s mostly accessible on a year-round basis, but it’s quite a personal choice as to when you visit depending on your focus.

October to March is when the most rain falls, which means Iguazu is at its most impressive with high water levels – however, this can mean some trails are closed, or the skies may be a little cloudy. This is also the hottest time of the year with humidity levels at a peak.

May to August is considered the dry season – which means you have a good chance of seeing the falls under blue skies. Water levels and temperatures will be a little lower though and do remember that rain can fall year round.

This trip can be tailor-made to suit your requirements; if you fancy a day or two longer - or a journey into the jungle - before heading off to your next South American destination then please just let us know! We can also turn this into a bigger trip. Popular extensions include Rio and Buenos Aires city breaks, before heading south to Patagonia, north-west to Peru and the Amazon, or across the Andes to Santiago, the exit point for Easter Island, Tahiti and Australasia.

    Not included
    • International flights
    • Meals other than breakfast
    • Tips and gratuities
    • Services other than those mentioned
    • Personal expenditures (ie laundry, room service, phone calls etc)
