Day 1: Arrive on Easter Island
Upon arrival you will be met by a guide and welcomed with a traditional flower necklace. You will then be transferred to your hotel for 3 nights. The rest of the day is at leisure, why not visit the nearby church and village and absorb the local culture.
Day 2: Moais of Easter Island - Day tour to Anakena Beach
After breakfast you’ll head down the southeast coast, stopping at Ahu Hanga Te’e where you will be able to view a variety of toppled Moai (statues) before heading to the Rano Raraku volcano, where 95% of all Moai were carved.
After lunch (included) you travel on to Ahu Tongariki – the largest platform on the island and home to 15 Moai. There are two other stops at significant Moai sites; along the north coast and the beach of Anakena, home to white sands and coconut palms, you will get to visit these before heading inland back to your hotel.
Day 3: Ahu Akivi & Orongo Ceremonial Village tours
After breakfast you will be met by your guide for a trip that begins at Rano Kau, the second oldest volcano and the home to the ceremonial village of Orongo – known for the birdman cult ceremonies. The village has the remains of ancient ahu and 47 restored houses. You can also see 3 small islets as you drive on to the town of Hanga Roa, finishing with a stop at the Artisan Market. Before returning back to the hotel you will visit the cave of Ana Kai Tangata where you will find some interesting wall paintings.
After lunch at the hotel (own expense) you will be met by your guide again and will travel further inland to Ahu Akivi, a stone platform with 7 Moai that face the ocean. From here you will visit Hanga Poukura, an ahu site where you will find a number of toppled moai statues and Puna Pau, a crater where red scoria (used to carve the topknots on the statue heads) was quarried. Your final stop for the day will be the ceremonial site of Tahai, boasting 3 ahus, restored statues & the remains of boathouses.
