Day 1: Sydney — Barrington Tops
You will depart at 8am to get out of the big city. You head to the Hunter Valley wine area and do a tasting at one of Australia’s most famous historic vineyards before heading through the backcountry to a stunning stop on the edge of Barrington Tops National Park (a World Heritage Listed Area). You stay in your own private lodge overlooking the Barrington River. You get a chance to ride an inner tube down a scenic part of the river and check out the amazing wildlife all around including kangaroos, platypus and a wide range of birdlife. You may want to stay longer to do extended walks, river trips or mountain biking in the National Park.
Day 2: Barrington Tops — Spot X
You have the morning in Barrington Tops for a bit of exploring before visiting a Koala hospital to learn about their efforts in preserving Koalas and what you can do to help, then travel on to waterfront accommodation at the Spot X Surf Camp.
Day 3: Spot X — River Retreat
This morning you get to play in the waves and take part in a surf lesson (included in your Loka pass). You then have some remote exploring today on the way to the River Retreat. Along the way spot sea eagles and other marine life. You will camp beside the river for the night.
Day 4: River Camp — Byron Bay
Today you leave camp early, do pickups and drop offs at Spot X, hop in our bus and head up towards Byron Bay, Australia’s famous surf and arts town. Stopping in the picturesque town of Yamba along the way and doing some rock jumping at the Angourie Blue Pool, you then have an orientation drive on your way into Byron.
Day 5: Free Day in Byron Bay
Visit the lighthouse so that you can take in the stunning views from Australia’s most easterly point, go surfing, kayaking, take a trip to the alternative town of Nimbin, or just chill out and take in the laidback, surfie vibe.
Day 6: Byron Bay — Brisbane
Today you cross the New South Wales/Queensland border, explore the Fingal headlands, then make a stop in the Gold Coast stare at tourists for a bit. You may want to get off here to experience the sun, sand, tans and high-rises of Australia’s most developed beach resort. You will then drive through Brisbane, dropping you off at your central accommodation.
