You'll fly into Hanoi, Vietnam's colonial northern capital. Spend time exploring this traditional city before joining the 'Laos & Thailand on a shoestring' small group tour. From Hanoi you'll travel overland into Laos by train, local bus, air-conditioned bus and plane! Float down the Mekong River on a slow boat and venture into Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, before reaching Bangkok with temple visits and streetfood crawls along the way!

When you arrive into Bangkok we have included our 9 day ThaIntro tour to help you explore the capital, then head further south to Khao Sok National Park where you can sleep in a floating bungalow before making it over to the island of Koh Phangan. With the help of a tour leader, you'll have plenty of time to make friends and make the most of Thai hospitality; laze on the beaches, float in a traditional longboat, snorkel in crystal clear seas and under waterfalls and even enjoy an included elephant experience in the jungle! When you've worked up enough of an appetite make sure to try the tastiest local Thai food imaginable! Your tour leader can arrange your transport back up to Bangkok for your next flight.

Arriving from your next flight into Melbourne, Australia we've included a 4-night stay at the Base Hostel in St Kilda. You'll have some free time to discover what this city has to offer; from the Boho vibes and beaches of St Kilda to the MCG Sports ground and the buzz of the Southbank cafes and restaurants. We can arrange day trips to Phillip Island to see the little penguins, or a road trip along the Great Ocean Road to see the rock stacks known as the Twelve Apostles - just ask.

We've included a Greyhound bus from Melbourne to Sydney.

Your flight from Cairns will bring you into Denpasar on the island of Bali in Indonesia. Enjoy the traditional Balinese lifestyle and cuisine, see lush rice paddies, visit Ubud before heading on to the beaches of Candidasa to see floating palaces and temples. You'll visit local markets and fishing villages and have views over volcanoes before heading over to the magnificent Gili Islands and on to Lombok where you can opt for horse riding, yoga or just some rest on the beaches. Bliss!

Advice on extra money expenditure

Australia is more expensive than South East Asia, where you could budget around £10 a day for 3 local-style meals, local beers come in at around £1. In Australia you would probably want to set aside around £30/£50 a day, beers are much more expensive (between $8-$12 dollars) When travelling the east coast, the best option is to buy food from supermarkets and cook in the hostel kitchens, a real money saving exercise: leaving more funds for fun activities and nights out!
