Set off on a chimpanzee trek in Rwanda | Travel Nation

See chimpanzees in the wild

A tiny haven in the landmass of Africa, Rwanda is often known only for the hideous genocide that shook the country in the 1994. In the last 20 years, however, Rwandan’s have emerged from their tragic past and built a thriving economy and sustainable tourism industry, centred around their most prized animal residents – the mountain gorillas. Hike with these gentle giants in the Virunga Mountains and trek to see chimpanzees swinging through the canopy in Nyungwe. Canoe quietly along the Mukungwa River and spot hippos and lions in Akagera National Park. Taste a cup of local coffee in one of Kigali’s many cosy cafes and learn about the remarkable journey of Rwanda since those 100 days in 1994 at the Genocide Museum.
