Backpacking in Fiji

We believe that travel doesn’t have to break the bank. If you have big dreams but a small budget and want to get off the beaten track and meet the locals, we’ll help you get the maximum value from your trip.

Relatively speaking, Fiji is one of the less expensive South Pacific islands to include in your trip and with round the world tickets making it an easy stop on any itinerary - why not factor in some serious island time?

You’ll land on the island of Viti Levu, and from there you can explore the main island or head out to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands – the choice is yours. For more ideas on what to do and how to get around, see our blog How to squeeze Fiji into your round the world trip.

Travel passes

A great way to explore the main island of Vitu Levu is with Feejee Experience. Trips range from 3 to 12 days and include travel by fast boat, bus, bilibili raft, fins and feet! Feejee Experience offer both the longer ‘hop on hop off’ passes (including the bus and some activities) and shorter, fully inclusive trips (with transport, accommodation and some activities included). Feejee Experience is designed to show you the ‘real’ Fiji, giving you the chance to visit local schools, see beautiful islands and head off the beaten track to secluded waterfalls and natural mud pools.

Island-hopping

If you're backpacking in Fiji, you're very likely to end up hopping on the Yasawa Flyer (the 'big yellow boat') at some point during your trip. The boat departs Port Denerau on the main island of Viti Levu (where you’ll fly into the airport in Nadi) every day and sails a loop through the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands dropping off and collecting people from different islands and resorts. If this sounds like it's up your street, see our blog How to backpack Fiji on the Yasawa Flyer - and check out our trip ideas below.

The ‘Bula Combo’ pass is the most flexible way to travel. It includes the boat and a pre-paid accommodation pass, allowing you to reserve overnight stays from the boat as you travel. You’ll have complete flexibility and the peace of mind that everything is paid for upfront.

We also offer island-hopping adventures with set itineraries that visit specific islands. These include boat transport, accommodation and some or all meals (depending on the level you choose). Accommodation is pre-arranged, so you’ll always know where you will be going, you can even upgrade to a ‘full monty’ package to include some cook excursions!
