Iceland
Iceland is a glorious natural playground that comes into its own over the summer. The mild temperatures (typically around 9 degrees) make for brilliant hiking weather in June, while over 20 species of whale breach in the waters off the coastline. Spot minkes, humpbacks, orcas and dolphins as you explore Iceland, learning about the local folklore, licking wild blueberry ice-cream and discovering bizarre-but-beautiful landscapes. Watch rainbows bounce off waterfalls, take dips in thermal springs at the side of the road and spot puffins on the hillsides.
As road trip destinations go, you can’t beat Iceland. It’s safe, it’s small, and it holds surprises around every corner. With just one week, you can cover a whole lot of ground in Iceland and see everything from glaciers to geysers. In June, Iceland is heading straight for the Midnight Sun, so the days are wonderfully long, giving you plenty of driving light. Not only that, but the roads are still reasonably quiet, as family holidaymakers have not yet landed. If you’re after an adventure, look no further!
