Small group tour provider, G Adventures say: "In December 2015 we launched a new riverboat program with itineraries that travel along 3 of the mightiest rivers in the world: the Mekong, the Ganges and the Amazon. As you’d expect, you’ll find a strong emphasis on exploring and cultural activities as well as opportunities to visit Planeterra projects which use tourism to sustainable support local people."

  • Improved fuel economy—which helps keep the costs of travel down
  • Larger and more fuel efficient engine, offering improved torque to get through rough spots
  • 250-litre water tank so passengers can refill water bottles and reduce plastic waster

3. Learning first-hand from National Geographic researchers

G Adventures say: "We've just introduced our National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures, a collection of 70 travel experiences in 50 countries to offer more meaningful encounters; interactions with knowledgeable, local guides; and the freedom to roam, all within the structure and security of travelling in a small group.

You could join a South African safari with a researcher working on a National Geographic-sponsored initiative that works to protect cheetahs and other big cats or take part in a lively cooking class in the home of a chef in Indonesia. You could even play an active role in tropical reforestation by planting trees alongside a National Geographic researcher in Costa Rica."

5. David Attenbrough revisiting the Great Barrier Reef

Tourism & Events Queensland logo
Tourism & Events Queensland say: "We were really excited to read this quote from Sir David Attenborough: ‘”People say to me, 'what was the most magical thing you ever saw in your life?'… and I always say without a word of exaggeration, 'the first time I was lucky enough to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef'”. We’re looking forward to watching the forthcoming David Attenborough series on the Great Barrier Reef to be broadcast on the BBC in December and January.

Research always shows that for the Brits, the Great Barrier Reef tops the list of experiences that British travellers want to experience in Australia and we hope that this programme will inspire many people to come and experience it for themselves. There are so many ways to do this and with some you don’t even have to get wet!

Whether you snorkel or dive or take a scenic flight over the reef; perhaps you’ll want to stay on a tropical Great Barrier Reef island or go sailing or meet with a marine biologist to learn more about this World Heritage-listed wonderland. Or maybe you’ll go in search of the iconic ‘Great 8’ marine encounters: clownfish, sharks, manta rays, maori wrasse, potato cod, giant clams, turtles and whales.Check out this amazing video for more inspiration!"
