Day 1: Arrive on Easter Island

On arrival at Hanga Roa airport, you’ll be met by your guide and greeted with a traditional flower necklace. You’ll be driven to your hotel, to check in for a 3-night stay, with the rest of the day free for you to rest or explore – so why not visit the nearby church and village and get acquainted with island life?

Day 2: Mysterious Moai: day tour to Anakena Beach

After breakfast you’ll head down the southeast coast, stopping at Ahu Hanga Te’e where you will be able to view a variety of toppled Moai before heading to the Rano Raraku volcano, where 95% of all the Moai stone statues were carved.

After lunch (included), continue to Ahu Tongariki – the largest ‘ahu’ (‘platform’) on the island which is home to 15 Moai.  There are two other stops at significant Moai sites; along the north coast and the beach of Anakena, home to white sands and coconut palms, you will get to visit these before heading inland back to your hotel.

Day 3: Ahu Akivi & Orongo ceremonial village tours

After breakfast, you will be met by your guide for a trip that begins at Rano Kau, the second oldest volcano and the home to the ceremonial village of Orongo – known for the birdman cult ceremonies.  The village has the remains of ancient ahu and 47 restored houses.  You can also see three small islets as you drive on to the town of Hanga Roa, finishing with a stop at the Artisan Market. Before returning to the hotel, you will visit the cave of Ana Kai Tangata where you will find some interesting wall paintings.

After lunch, your guide will meet you once more and drive you further inland to Ahu Akivi, a stone platform with 7 Moai that look out over the Pacific Ocean.  From here, visit Hanga Poukura, an ahu site where you will find some toppled moai statues and Puna Pau, a crater where red scoria (used to carve the topknots on the statue heads) was quarried.  Your final stop for the day will be the ceremonial site of Tahai, boasting three ahus, restored statues & the remains of boathouses.

    Day 4: Depart Easter Island

After breakfast and check-out you will be driven back to the airport for your onward flight.

    What's included
    • 3 nights accommodation in a twin or double room, on a bed & breakfast basis
    • Transfers and excursions on a shared basis with an English or French speaking guide
    • Entry fees in all listed excursions, including Rapa Nui National Park
    • Box lunch on full day tour (Day 3)

Peak season on Easter Island is between January & March; this is when prices are at a premium and availability limited, highest prices occur around February’s Tapati Rapa Nui festival. April to June and October to December can be a good time to visit as the climate is fairly temperate and crowds fewer. July to August can bring cold weather, which isn’t ideal for visiting the beaches but this can be a good time to go for those interested in hiking or horse riding.
